The Queen's Golden Jubilee

Hope and Homes for Children

For some years I had a friend who I always picked up when we went to embroidery class and when we attended a club together. After the class finished and she no longer attended the cub I still visited her occasionally. One day I was met by the husband who greeted me by saying "What do you want? You never come here but you want something". I felt wrongly accused and I'm afraid that was my last visit and my last contact with my one-time friend. Now I wonder if I was too hasty in my judgment for after all here I am making an appeal. This is not me being greedy - but an invitation to join me in doing something for others.
Please read on;-
Some readers may remember an item in the Lynn News & Advertiser last year that told of the journey made by Roger Warner of Whittington, to the Ukraine to visit a friend. Roger first met Ivan when he came to work on his farm in 1996 and a friendship was established. Ivan returned to his own country and is now employed driving a mini-bus, a job he was able to recommend him for.  They have contact with the Charity "Hope and Homes for Children" which was founded by Capt. Mark Cook after serving in Croatia with the United Nations.
Who would like to join me in supporting these children by making warm mittens, which Roger will take out later in the year?  A pattern is now available for the KNITTING CLASS AT THE PRODUCE SHOW and these will be part of the effort - but we should also like other sizes and balaclavas too.
Mittens can be made with as little as 50 grams of yarn so this is a good chance to use up some oddments. We are producing patterns for a variety of sizes so IF YOU HAVE THE WILL, THE SKILL, AND THE TIME please will you join the effort?
If you are short of materials please ask as I have been around the charity shops and got extra needles - and I have some spare yarn - and would be pleased to act as a clearing house for others if need be.  We know these will go just where they are needed.
