Parish Council
The Council was disappointed that a new litter bin placed on the Recreation Ground was vandalised within a week. About 500 worth of water has been wasted at the Recreation Ground, presumably by children playing with the taps. This wasted money could have been put towards maintenance or upgrading of play equipment.
The Council was pleased that Northwold came second in the EDP Best Village competition, and suggested that the prize money be spent on apple trees in the Cemetery. A dead tree in Whittington playing field is to be cleared. Trees overhanging the War Memorial must be cleared by the Electricity suppliers.
Northwold's Harvest festival service was held in St Andrew's Church on Sunday morning, with canon John Rowsell taking charge. Afterwards 70 people went to the Village hall for the Harvest Ploughman's Lunch.

Village Hall, Auction of promises

This event has unfortunately been cancelled due to lack of support.
Village Hall - Thank you!
I would like to extend my thanks to all who supported the first Art Exhibition to be held in Northwold Village Hall on 29th, 30th & 31st of August. As you know, money raised from this venture was to go to the Village Hall Roof Refurbishment Fund. I am pleased to say that 600 was raised.
Thanks go to the artists, the stewards, the raffle prize donors, those who really worked hard to put the whole thing together and organise the preview evening (you know who you are!) and also to every one who took time to attend. Your continued support of the Village Hall is much appreciated.

Father Christmas
On Saturday 20th December, Father Christmas will be visiting the village of Northwold on his sleigh. He will be touring the streets of the village between 5pm and 8pm to help raise money for the roof of the village hall (he feels a bit guilty after Rudolph landed a bit heavy one year!) Make sure you look out for him, and in the next issue of Village life read details for how he may pay special visits to particular houses!
Playground - Update
Thanks for the enthusiastic response to the article "Northwold Playground - your views" in the June 2003 issue of the Village Life Newsletter.
Since then, events have been progressing well.
We have attended several Parish Council meetings and had a site visit with members of the Parish Council. They have kindly agreed the area of land for upgrading the playground and are being supportive of the project.
In regard to funding we have had numerous applications forms for grants, and are awaiting more.
It's now time to set up a committee, and get those of you who are interested much more involved. There is plenty to do. Aside from filling in the applications, we also need a name (!), a constitution outlining our aims and objectives plus much more. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers. Can you help? An open meeting is set to be held at the Village Hall Thursday 30th October 7.30 pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

MacMillan Coffee morning
A big thank you to all who supported our Northwold Coffee Morning. This year we were successful in raising 211 for the Charity by way of donations, raffle and sale of cakes, crafts etc. Everyone there (Including one cat) was happy to support
